Legendary highlife music superstar, Nana Kwame Ampadu noted with the hit song “Yaw Berko” has advised that the current crop of musicians should be mindful of their choice of lyrics paying attention to Ghana’s most decorated rapper, Sarkodie.
The veteran highlife singer was wading his view on the Sarkodie and the Krobo agitated youth over Kurl Songx track titled “Jennifer Lomotey” song which has proven to contain derogatory words. In an interview with DJ Roar of Kessben 93.3FM’s most listened show dubbed Entertainment Cirkle on Friday (June 16, 2017), attributed the growing profane and derogatory choice of lyrics to artist personal ego.
Similarly, failure of contemporary artistes to find elderly people to listen and review their lyrics before recording is another causative agent for the growing canker. To him, because music is a gift from God, every artist sees himself to be the “Boss Player” and as a result pay less attention to guidance from the ace musicians.
The ‘King of Highlife Music’ explained that it’s unfortunate he has lost Sarkodie’s telephone number else he would have called him to give him some pep talks. More importantly, he expressed interest in leading Sarkodie’s delegation to appeal to the Krobo people for both parties to smoke the peace pipe.
