This year’s celebration of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s 108th birthday will be crowned with a book launch at the Kwame Nkrumah Institute of African Studies, University of Ghana Legon.
The chairperson of the Kwame Nkrumah Pan-African centre, Honourable Samia Yaba Nkrumah who is also the daughter of Ghana’s first President, made the disclosure in an exclusive interview on Good morning Africa with Kwabena Bibini Tawiah on Xlive Africa radio. She also outlined the plans and preparations laid down for Kwame Nkrumah’s 108th birthday celebration. Samia Nkrumah explained that launching one of Nkrumah’s many books on his birthday at the University of Ghana goes beyond a birthday celebration and a book launch.
According to Samia, the University of Ghana was the exact place where Kwame Nkrumah’s books were burnt 50 years ago after his overthrow, and going back there to re-launch his book is symbolic to all Nkrumahist and the people of Africa.
“The aim of this event is to let the youth read and understand the ideas of Nkrumah by themselves and not what Samia is telling them” She explained.
Samia Nkrumah who is also the former chairperson of the Convention Peoples Party posited, ‘a lot has been written about Kwame Nkrumah by others but little is known about what he wrote about himself and his ideas and this is why this is a great opportunity for the young ones to read his books and debate his ideas’.
According to the Nkrumah daughter, for the first time, there will be a public debate from people with different ideas about Nkrumahism at the book launch event to commemorate Kwame Nkrumah’s 108th birthday.
