The New Patriotic Party (NPP) lawmaker for Manso Nkwanta Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Joseph Albert Quarm has accused the District Chief Executive (DCE) for area, William Bediako Asante of supervising over illegal mining activities in the district.
According to the anti-illegal mining crusader, politicians across the divide in the area are still engaging in illegal mining despite a ban on these activities by the government.
“It is true and I can confirm that some people are still doing it in places like Kaniago, Totomkrom, Abore and many areas”, Hon. Joseph Albert Quarm revealed on Kumasi-based Fox FM.
The revelation comes at the back of allegations by one of the NDC communicators in the Ashanti Region, Nurudeen Abass that constituency executives of NPP in the area are engaging in illegal mining in some communities.
Speaking to the issue on Kumasi-based Fox FM, the lawmaker confirmed stating members of NPP and NDC are still doing the illegal mining on the hind side of Operation Vanguard.
“What I do not understand is that we have a DCE who doubles as chairman of the District Security Council but nothing is being done to stop these illegal miners”, he fumed.
“What is he doing as there DCE? Does he think he was brought there to supervise or superintendent over galamsey” the anti-illegal crusader and lawmaker quizzed.
Hon. Joseph Albert Quarm hinted of plans to petition the Presidency to take action against persons directly or indirectly involved in illegal mining there.
