Founder of Danquah Institute, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko has sparked a social media storm after a post which was questioning if it is prudent to increase the current 17.5% Value Added Tax (VAT) to inure to the benefit of the citizenry.

His post which comes ahead of a mid-year budget review of the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration said “Will you support a VAT increase to keep your lights on, your secondary schools filled, your school kids fed, your streets clean, your streets safe, young graduates employed, and decent, affordable homes built for working families”

There have been mixed reactions to the post with sections suggesting it is to fly the kite in order to gauge reactions of a planned increment of VAT to 20%.
