A spokesperson for Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) Association in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Alidu Seidu wants members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to swear with deadly ‘Antoa Nyaame’ deity if they are innocent of paying bribes to delegates in their internal elections.
“I am a Muslim so I cannot not swear or curse people on this matter but I will urged anyone who does that to do so if NDC members conduct their election without giving money to delegates”. He said.
According to the Asokore Mampong MCE, all the two major political parties in Ghana; the ruling New Patriotic Party and the opposition National Democratic Congress always give monies to delegates before any of their internal election including national elections.
“If I’m telling lies, let any of the political party come out to deny or swear with any deity”, Hon. Alidu Seidu fumed during panel discussion monitored by MyNewsGh.com on Kumasi-based Nhyira FM political talkshow hosted by Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin.
It has been alleged that the newly elected National Chairman of the ruling NPP, Mr. Freddie Blay at a Congress recently held in Koforidua paid Fifteen thousand cedis to each delegates ahead of the polls raising suspicion of corruption as Board Chairman of state-own Ghana National Petroleum Cooperation (GNPC).
According to reports, Mr. Freddie Blay, as a guarantor, paid 3 million dollars which constitute 30% of the total cost of 11.4 million dollars to take a delivery of t 100 mini-buses for the party.
The issue has therefore generated public outcry with opposition political parties and civil society organizations describing it as vote buying.
