The District Police Commander for Sefwi Akontombra in the Western region of Ghana DSP Obeng ordered his men to give a school boy 36 lashes on his back, MyNewsGh.com has learnt.
The Police Commander whose duty post is near the Sefwi Akontombra Primary and JHS school where this incident happened saw the boy fighting with his (school boy’s) colleague during their school’s canteen time.
Eyewitness report say the other boy was left off the hook while one received lashes.
The young boy sustained deep cuts on his back and his buttocks, and has been unable to sit or sleep since.
According to the father of the boy, he was called by his wife over what has happened after which he took the boy to the hospital.
The doctors and nurses refused to attend to the boy without a police report because they believed the parents abused him at home and are blaming the police.
The BNI Officer of the district intervened to have the boy treated.
They later went to the police commander DSP Obeng, who apologized and said he was very sorry for what happened and wants to take care of the boy’s medical bills.
Family sources who confirmed the incident to MyNewsGh.com said the police have warned the family against speaking to the media over the issue.
