About 9 assembly members in the Berekum West District Assembly of the Brong Ahafo Region have refunded monies paid to them by the disappointed District Chief Executive (DCE) nominee, Hon Martin Adjei.

The nominee is reported to have paid GH¢2000 to the about 27 assembly members to facilitate his confirmation but he got only 12 votes out of the 27 total votes which sparked his anger after the exercise.

Per the computation of the Electoral Commission, the nominee polled twelve representing 44.4% and 15 rejected representing 55.6%

The situation generated tension in the assembly among the assembly members and the nominee who it is gathered started demanding that assembly members refund his ‘bribes’ or he uses other means to retrieve the cash.

Speaking on Angel Fm Tuesday in an interview monitored by MyNewsGh.com, the assemblyman for Jinijini, Hon Isaac Adjei confirmed 9 of them have paid back the money they took from the nominee.

He also affirmed the amount paid to them was GH¢2,000 as reported earlier by the disappointed DCE.

The nominee, Martin Obeng-Adjei did not get the required two- thirds majority to become the District Chief Executive (DCE) after he alleged assembly members took money from him.

The nominee obtained 12 votes which fell short of the 18 needed in the 27-member Assembly.

However, Mr. Isaac Adjei an assembly member in the interview confirmed 9 of them have returned the bribe to the disappointed DCE because the intention for the paid amount was not achieved.

“Out of 27 assembly members he got twelve votes 9 of us however realized it was not fair and decided to return the money” Mr. Isaac Adjei explained indicating that he has also urged the rest of his members to return the money.
