The Ashanti Regional Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Sam Payne has called for the arrest and prosecution of all the so-called Delta Force members who assaulted party members and the Minister for Monitoring and Elevation at a meeting last Sunday.
He wants the suspects thrown into jail to serve as a deterrent to others who are of the view they can take the laws into their own hands in the name of political expediency and get away with it.
The meeting was held between members of the NPP in the Tafo Pankrono Constituency and Dr. Akoto Osei who is also the Member of Parliament for the area.
A video footage available to MyNewsGh.com indicates that members of the NPP vigilante group, Delta Force pounced on members of the party, beating and causing chaos at the said meeting.
According to sources, Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei who was present at the meeting was whisked away amidst threat on his life from the aggrieved youths. The party’s Constituency Organizer of the area Samuel Afoakwa has described the attack as “100% justifiable”.
The youth claim Dr. Akoto Osei had not fulfilled a promise made to them in the run-up to the 2016 general election to provide them with jobs should the NPP win power, accusing the minister of refusing to pick their calls either
However, speaking on GBC’s “Behind the News” in an interview, Mr. Sam Payne said the youth must be prosecuted if found guilty.
“Yes if there is any wrongdoing if there is anything criminal about their conducts. I am not the law and not the police. I cannot prescribe sentences or prescribe cases against people so when the law gets them and is able to establish facts that yes, this and that, then they should be. As somebody who wouldn’t want to compromise on discipline if they find anything wrong with their conduct the law must take its course”.
Mr. Sam Payne said this when asked “will you be happy if these guys are arrested and prosecuted to serve as a deterrent?
The Regional secretary argued that the youth could have used a more civilized way to present their case since the minister was present at the meeting.
“I don’t even know how to describe it when people say this one promised me this and that…… and they have to fulfill and therefore we are going to destruct the meeting. At least they could have even gone to the meeting and put their case across. Because the MP was there, all the constituency officers were there, all polling station executives were as well present. Therefore they could have used the meeting as an opportunity to raise their issues”. Sam Payne chided
