The Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon Kofi Dzamesi is urging persons especially some chiefs who are averse to the creation of the Oti Region to resort to the courts rather than whip up tensions in the area.
He observed that the courts are the appropriate avenues for such persons to channel their energies to for proper interpretation of the constitution regarding the matter.
The Agbogbomefia of Asogli State and President of the National House of Chiefs, Torgbe Afede XIV is leading a rebellion against the creation of the new region arguing that it is a recipe for divisions are violence in the area.
But speaking at the Anlo Hogbetsotso festival held at Anloga last weekend, Kofi Dzamesi advised the chiefs and people who keep persisting on their right to vote in the referendum not to do anything untoward to threaten the peace in the area
“The supreme court has the final say to whatever anybody has about the creation of the new region. Let’s not be a conduit for any form of disunity we all enjoy as a people. Use the Supreme Court to settle all issues and don’t resort to violence” he urged the celebrants.
Amidst the hooting from the gathering, the minister managed to drive home his message of the government’s achievements over the two years in office.
“So far this government has been focused on its agenda of prosperity for Ghanaians. President Kufuor gave you the Keta Municipality status and HE Nana Akufo Addo has signed to make Anloga a District capital of Anlo Assembly. The free SHS and NABCO has been delivered by the President”, he enumerated various interventions by the current administration.
In all this drama, the minister finally donated an amount of GHC10,000, water, and other assorted drinks as the contribution from the government towards the festival.
This year’s Anlo Hogbetsotso festival has gone into the annals of history as the festival of Peace and Unity as the Asogli state led by Torgbe Afede XIV joined Torgbe Sri III in celebration.
The speeches could not end without the call on the president to do the needful by calling of the referendum to create Oti Region as the chiefs fear it threatens the peace the people of the region enjoy.
