Former President John Dramani Mahama hopes to make history when he wins back the presidency on the ticket of the opposition NationalDemocratic Congress (NDC) at the 2020 polls, MyNewsGh.com can report.
Addressing Members of Parliament (MPs) from the minority, he observed that there have been instances where former presidents returned to win general elections in some parts of the world promising to repeat that history in Ghana
“My brothers and sisters, I believe we can make history and that is the history of re-election of the person who was president before. It is a rare phenomenon it happened Benin where President Mathieu Kérékou won the presidency again, it recently Malaysia where Mahathir Mohamad at 93 had researched and won the presidency again”, he disclosed.
He is of the view that when he is reelected, the NDC will rewrite the history books of the country but observed that his winning back the presidency he lost to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo does not come on a silver platter. Related Posts
“I believe that NDC will write a page in the history books of Ghana with the reelection of a person who has been president before. But we should know the restrictions that we face which means that a lot of preparations must go on the ground”, he advised.
The former President urged leaders of the party especially MPs to do a lot of work in terms of research garnering support if his comeback must be a reality.
