Head Coach Stuart Baxter will have to pick his best starting XI of the tournament when South Africa face off with the hosts of the Africa Cup Of Nations.
Bafana will lock horns with Egypt on Saturday, July 06 in the round of 16, this after the South African national team progressed through as the fourth best third-placed team in the group stages.
Speaking to the South African Football Association, Head Coach Baxter explained his thinking behind picking his best first 11 players to take the field on Saturday.
“The team selection is always an issue for the supporters and me because that is what opinion is. If I asked all the PSL coaches, they would probably have different opinions as well,” Baxter said.
“I am probably the one equip with the most information on the player’s mentality and physicality and if he suits the game plan etc. but it is an issue for the technical staff.
“I think we are going to the same as we’ve done, we are going to look at the opponents and see which player we think fits them badly and try and build a game plan around that.
“There is no great time to start moving between systems but we can during the game if we have to.
“(For) starting, we have people who are in form and fresh and suit the game plan and then you have to get the players believing that the game plan is going to work,” he added.
