Hardline supporter of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Hajia Fati has been convicted to a total fine of GHC 10,400 by the Adjabeng Magistrate Court for assaulting Adom FM reporter Ohemaa Sakyiwaa in 2018 at the NPP’s headquarters.
Ms Fati, known for her zealous support for the NPP, promptly assaulted the reporter after supposedly mistaking her for an onion seller who had come too close for comfort at the party headquarters.
The presiding judge Justice Isaac Addo found her guilty for criminally assaulting the multimedia journalist she claimed in her defense thought was an onion seller
The judge showed clemency on Ms Fati by not committing her to prison for 20 months because of her old age but warned that failure to pay the amount will result in her being taken into custodial sentence.
GHC 5,000 out of the total fine is to be paid to the assaulted journalist as compensation while the remainder is meant for the state. If she fails to pay the fine, she will then be committed to prison.
Ms Fati has courted controversy for her outspokenness and violent conduct.
