Hearts of Oak came close to signing Nkoranza Warriors skipper Emmanuel Sarkodie but the midfielder in the last-minute signed for arch rivals Asante Kotoko.
His signing for Asante Kotoko was very shocking to many because Hearts of Oak were the favorite to land the services of the player.
As to why Hearts of Oak failed to sign the player came with reports that Board Member for the Phobians, Alhaji Akambi was the reason why Emmanuel Sarkodie had to sign for Asante Kotoko.
According to an audio played on Kumasi based Fox FM monitored by Kyfilla.com which was a conversation that Nkoranza Warriors CEO Kuuku Bartels had with one Maxwell Asabil, concerning Emmanuel Sarkodie’s failed movement to Hearts of Oak, disclosed that the 2004 CAF Confederation Cup Champions were quoting GH¢20,000 for Emmanuel Sarkodie for a three-year deal.
Kuuku Bartels in the said conversation revealed that, “The offer that Hearts of Oak were quoting through Alhaji Akambi for the guy [Emmanuel Sarkodie] was very small. Before negotiating with Hearts of Oak, Aduana Stars and Asante Kotoko have showed interest in the player.
“I was negotiating with Alhaji Akambi because he told me not to talk to the Managing Director. Later, I lost interest in the deal and had a call from Kotoko coach Maxwell Konadu who said he was interested in Sarkodie. Offer from Kotoko was very good that’s why we let Sarkodie to go to Kotoko.
Meanwhile, the said tape is what was played as an evidence when Alhaji Akambi faced a three-member Hearts of Oak committee for allegedly accepting GH¢200 in regards to Emmanuel Sarkodie’s supposed move to Hearts of Oak.
