The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has cancelled the 2020 edition of the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations.
The decision has been taken by the continent’s football governing body after a crunch meeting on Tuesday, June 30, 2020.
The competition which was the 12th edition with the qualifiers scheduled for April to June 2020 has been cancelled due to the novel Coronavirus.
This year’s competition would have seen the participating countries expanded from eight to twelve.
DR Congo were supposed to host the tournament but later withdrew from hosting the other seven African countries.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Super Falcons with 11 African titles are the defending champions of the competition after defeating South Africa at the last edition of the tournament in 2018.
